Security is one more domain that should be centralized. Typically in most battalions the various gates and other areas to be secured are distributed to the various companies. The areas are also rotated once a year.
The main gate through which the vehicles pass should be centralized. This means that you have to setup a security section that reports directly to you. This section will also carry out checks on other security points.
Implementing this change helped us in recovering a lot of rations, FOL, ordnance stores that were being siphoned off. The security at the main gate would check the vehicles in great detail. And most of these items were the ones that were surplus so actually they would not have been identified in an audit.
Centralized security also was responsible for ensuring the FOL distribution happened as was dictated in my earlier post, same was true for Rations and clothing. There was some investment needed in identifying the security team, training the security team on what they should check, but it was worth it.
