Life Coach - Step 25 of 100 - Briefings onsite never offshore

Why this briefing style is effective is because you are actually on the ground at the location of the issue.

Let us assume a MTO who briefs the CO in the office on a weekly basis the number of vehicles that are in workshop. The details get reduced to a worksheet that has only numbers on it.
Now consider the same briefing on the ground with the CO and the MTO in the workshop. They walk up to each vehicle and for each vehicle the MTO lists the problem, the duration it has been in the workshop, the action being taken, the time to resolve and its past history. The impact is totally different.

Why this works is because now instead of just looking at numbers and seeing that 10 are onroad and 1 is offroad, one is actually looking at the vehicle?

Let me try another analogy. Downsizing in a recession is easy when the CEO has to sign a letter that says 1000 people to be fired. Now consider that the draft letter has photographs of the 1000 affected people. This creates a totally different perspective to the firing. And consider that the CEO is actually addressing an assembly of 1000 employees and telling them that they are fired.

I guess when one is inside the comfort of a conference room with snacks and drinks at hand, climate controlled the vehicle statistics becomes just another data point.

What briefing style do you think is correct?

As an MTO I used to take my briefings from my MT JCO next to each vehicle. The vehicle was repaired very fast.
