Life Coach - Step 49 of 100 - If you cannot deliver, dont ask

Col. Ravi Deskmukh advised me that if you ask people to tell you problems, they expect you to solve them. Otherwise next time they will say "Sab thik hai saab" and that is end of your feedback.

So when I visited troop quarters being in-charge of MES JCO and the troops' wives told me that the flush tank leaks or the bedroom door is unhinged and they have already complained many times to MES with no action, then I need to resolve it. I have these options:
  • Talk to the GE personally and get things resolved
  • Talk to the CO and use regimental funds for troops welfare - use our carpenter, our materials, our time to get it fixed
  • Use external labour at market rates
It does not matter what I do, what matters is did I deliver. Otherwise next time I should not visit the quarters or ask for feedback. Most of the troops tell us their problems only when they really suffer.

As long as what the troop is asking is legal and within his rights and he has exhausted the channels it is my job to ensure his welfare. Nahin to officer kay ka hoon mein - sirf ek postman hoon

And as a Commanding Officer if I cant do this ...
