Life Coach - Step 40 of 100 - MBO

In consulting I know what I will be appraised on at the end of the year. Typically the objectives for me to achieve by the end of the year are well defined. And the objective is mutually decided between me and my reporting manager.

For last year the objectives mutually decided to achieve a STAR rating were:
  • Be billable at least 60% of the year
  • Qualify a certification exam
  • Present a research paper in an international conference
  • Publish 2 papers in international magazines
  • Mentor 2 of the new joinees
  • Teach Project Management Professional Course for 6 days a year
  • Teach Six Sigma Green Belt to 10 associates
  • Develop a Risk Assessment methodology for ITIL based Business Continuity
  • Write 2 business proposals
At the end of the year, I could state where I was on each of the objective.

It is surprising that we don't have management by objectives in the army. The Company Commander and the CO can decide mutually what the objectives should be.

I had created a sample list of MBOs for my Training JCO, PMP JCO, QM JCO. You could create for your officers.

How about you commenting what objectives you would like to set for your Adjutant, Company Commanders, MTO, QM, YOs, etc?

I have a list of objectives I had created when I was a Company Commander which I discussed with my CO. But before I share that and influence your thought process, I would like to see yours.
