The next 30 days

In the first 30 days you got an insight into the functioning of the unit. In the next 30 days you will formulate what to change and implement them.

Actually this is the easiest 30 days.

Why?
In consulting I let the people tell me what they is wrong, what should be improved and how it should be improved. I only ask them leading questions. What should change and how?

The people doing the work on a daily basis have lots of knowledge that you as a CO don't need to learn. They are handicapped by the fact that they are not the COs.

For example my 2 TB gardener told me that he wanted to attend a garden show in civil area to see what flowers could be grown and what new techniques are available. He later started grafting different colour roses on the same plant. He wanted to be known for his creativity.

For every suggestion you receive do the following

• Ask what would be benefit of implementing the suggestion
• Ask what would be the loss of not implementing the suggestion
• Ask what would be the risk if you implement the suggestion
  
• Ask what is your risk mitigation strategy and are you okay with the residual risk

The next 30 days are for your people to come up with their ideas and implement them to capture the low hanging fruits.
