Life Coach - Step 4 of 100 - Trending and why it is important

One of the beauty of statistics is that it helps to discover trends. As an MTO for 67 ER I was responsible for some 200 odd vehicles. I had excellent rapport with the EME workshop to get a vehicle that was offroad, on road within a very short time. But that was reactive.

The difference between a leader and manager is proactive versus reactive.

What I liked was being proactive. Could I predict which vehicle would actually fail next week? Magic - nope, pure stats. If I have a trend analysis of every vehicle, let me illustrate -
I am a doctor who has a patient who comes and sees me quite often. If I maintain a chart when he falls sick in relation with season, change of climate, I could predict when he would be my customer again.

If I have a trend for every vehicle as to how many times has it visited the workshop and for what, I know when it will visit again ,unless the root cause is eliminated.
On the other hand, if I know that 23 of my Kraz vehicles had a leaking valve in their brake fluid pump, I know that my other 77 Kraz would be on that route too. Can I predit this? yes all of us can.

Trending of each vehicle over time and trending of class of vehicles with common problems over time, can identify root causes.

Where can i apply this trending elsewhere - my BPET timings are increasing with age - I am getting old. A person's firing is a trend. Number of AWOLs is a trend. Number of SLRs getting bad remark in annual inspection is a trend.

Question time:
What trends have you observed over time in your various assignments so far and how have you utilized them to your benefit?
