Life Coach - Step 33 of 100 - Are we managers or leaders

What exactly is a manager? One who manages resources.
What kind of resources? Time, manpower, cost, quality, scope, etc
And why does one need to manage resources. Because the resources are always less than required and hence one has to prioritize and allocate resources based on priority.

If resources were unlimited I need not manage. If I have lots of money, I don't need to balance my portfolio - weigh the risk versus the gain and have an optimal strategy for maximizing my profits based on my risk profile.

A manager manages resources.

So what does a leader do? I will share the answer but I need you guys to put on your thinking caps and tell me what you think.

Does a leader lead men? Hmm, a manager also leads men to manage the resources. So what is the difference.
Is a leader like Gandhi without formal authority? Does that mean that a defence officer cannot be a leader because he has formal authority to lead his men.
Does a leader walk on uncharted territory? What if the leader fails and takes his team alongwith him - would he still qualify to be a leader?
Can a junior officer be a leader in presence of a senior officer?

What a leader does is very simple but I want that answer from you, just like I got the answer to "What business is the army in?" from you.
